What is Canine Enrichment?

This is all about providing safe and appropriate activities and environments that optimise your dog's physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. This supports their innate typical behaviours, leading to a happy dog feeling fulfilled.

What is Canine Sensory Enrichment?

There are 6 pillars of Canine Enrichment including Sensory Enrichment, relating to activities which stimulate the dog's five senses, such as sniffing new smells, feeling different textures, seeing different vistas, listening to unusual sounds and experiencing different tastes.

Five Senses: Smell - Sight - Sound - Touch - Taste

Providing dogs with positive opportunities to explore and activate their senses is exciting for the dog and important for their health and wellbeing. It helps keep them focused, supports their confidence and lessens the risk of anxiety and challenging behaviours. Introducing dogs to new and varied experiences allows them to learn how to be adaptable, resilient and confident.

Transforming a Garden Space into a Sensory K9 Delight

STEP 1

Make a list of your needs and challenges for both you and your dog(s), in accessing and occupying their own safe and enclosed space.

STEP 2

Research and discuss ideas to make a plan of the space, to fit the needs of you and your dog(s).

STEP 3

Devise a realistic Action Plan to achieve your design and future proof it by allowing your space to evolve and change over the seasons and years.
