<aside> ❄️ Myth Buster - there is a myth that "dogs have a coat of fur and can tolerate the cold better than humans." This isn’t necessarily true as like us, our dogs are used to the warmth of indoor shelter and cold weather can be as tough for them as it is for us!

Make sure your dog is wrapped up warmly on cold, wet days during outdoor exercise in winter.
Consider the senior dog, as well as the younger dog, arthritic dog and dogs with a single coat of fur such as the Greyhound or Whippet. These dogs particularly need to wear a coat to keep their joints and muscles warm.
An ideal coat should be the correct size and well-fitted to the individual dog. It needs to reach from the neck to the base of the tail and protect the chest and abdomen. However it should not restrict forelimb movement or be so long that the dog trips over it!
Coats with built in front legs can be quite tricky to fit on the senior dog, arthritic dog or a long legged breed. Consider the option of a coat with a zippered back for easier fitting.
<aside> ❄️ Top Tip - coats can be placed on radiators to warm them up prior to being fitted on your dog before you venture out.
