Great ways to help dogs engage in their natural behaviours and improve their mental wellbeing and health.

The act of seeking for food slows the whole process down and requires far greater effort. This in turn provides mental stimulation, allows them to engage in their natural scavenging and problem solving behaviours, so they use their inbuilt dog brains.

The action of licking and chewing releases endorphins which makes the dog "feel good"; licking is comforting and a stress reducing activity.

The action of seeking for food also makes the whole feeding experience more pleasurable and allows dog's to engage in their innate canine behaviours.

FACT: Mental stimulation is more tiring than physical exercise and we know that 10 minutes of brain work is equivalent to 1 hour of physical exercise.

Canine nutritional (feeding) enrichment is also vital for health reasons. If a dog "bolts" their food from the bowl too quickly they could be at risk of "bloat." This is especially important in larger, deep chested breeds of dogs such as Dobermans, German Shepherds, Great Danes etc.
